Clyde was born March 11, 2004 down in the Denver Area. We didn’t know Clyde until Friday, March 12, 2010. Phil was working down in Denver off of I-70 & I-25 at the time when his co-worker found Clyde coming off of the interstate. His coworker picked Clyde up and brought him into the shop. Clyde was very thin and had a bad kennel cough. Instantly Phil wanted this dog. So after several phones to me I agreed that we could have our vet up in Loveland check him out. Our vet thought he was about 3yrs old. So Clyde came to the house and Phil kept him seperated from our Corgi dog Mini to begin with. Mini at that time was the only dog in the house and very loyal to us. By Sunday we introduced Clyde to Mini but it was not love at first sight. So sadly we decided to give Clyde to another home. We gave him to a woman in downtown Loveland and she was very happy to have him. Phil told her if there was any problems to call him. He left her the pill for his cough and our cell numbers. Unfortunately my husband was crushed. I even contacted the woman about 2 weeks later to see if she still had Clyde and was not able to get a hold of her. So I had an idea to check online to see if there was any Boxer Rescues in Colorado. Got the idea from Phil’s cousin Kelly who runs a Bulldog Rescue. I was searching and a link came up to the Larimer County Humane Society and there was CLYDE!!!! At that time his original owners called him Camello. It was 5:15pm and I was screaming for Phil. I literally ran to the phone and called to see if he was still there. When they confirmed he was I ran the car to see him. The staff there thought I was making this up because it was kinda hard to believe. They put me in the waiting room and he came through the down with his head down and then he saw me. His little nub of a tail wagged and he jumped up and put his paws on my shoulders and licked my face for a minute straight. The staff was amazed and then I showed him his original dog tag that we had kept. I did find out he ran away only 2 days after he went to stay with the woman in Loveland and made it all the way back to just outside our subdivision before Animal Control picked him up. I adopted him that night and brought him home. While at the Humane Society he was fixed and microchipped. Mini was thrilled to have him back because he was now fixed. Over time I researched Clyde’s past and spoke to his vet down in Denver. I got Clyde’s birthday and the fact that we was used a stud for breeding puppies. Clyde and Mini got along FABULOUSLY. They shared everything from that point. March 10th 2012 Clyde was diagnosed with Pancreatric Cancer. The average life scan without doing sugery was 74 days. Clyde lived for 75 days on feeding 6 time a day + predisone. He was still active until the day before his death. Best dog we have ever loved and he will be missed terribly. My husband started working from home in October of 2011 and Clyde was always with him. He loved to ride in the car and go for walks. We will miss his flapping of his ears, the way he really did box with his front paws, the furoughed brow when he wanted something and his warm kisses. RIP Clyde Archibald Hodapp.
